88mph

88mph is a seed fund and accelerator. We invest in early stage web/mobile companies with the ability to scale across Sub-Saharan Africa. Our main focus is attracting the best entrepreneurs, investing seed cash, and bringing them to a point where their businesses can grow independently, or be adequately evaluated by angels and VCs.

Grindstone

Grindstone is Knife Capital year-long entrepreneurial development programme to assist post-revenue scalable innovation-driven businesses in accelerating strategy execution. The programme has been developed as a result of interactions with thousands of South African companies where it is evident that most are not sufficiently prepared and positioned to: Cope with accelerated growth, Pass an investor due diligence, Raise adequate growth funding, Take full advantage of M&A opportunities and Secure international partnerships.

Founder Institute

The Founder Institute is an early-stage startup accelerator and global launch network with a part-time four month programme. The idea is that entrepreneurs can launch their dream company with training, feedback, and support from experienced startup CEOs, while not being required to quit their day job.

Techstars

The Techstars Foundation is a non-profit created to improve diversity in technology entrepreneurship by providing opportunities for underrepresented entrepreneurs through grants, scholarships, and sponsorships.

Tech Lab Africa

We aim to seek out, attract and support the most innovative, disruptive early stage ventures in the broad fields of FinTech and Health Tech. Successful applicants will join a 3 month programme in Cape Town, during which time Tech Lab Africa will work to catapult venture growth through facilitation of high touch engagement with local and international mentors, as well as senior Barclays Africa executives, subject matter experts and industry leaders. Tech Lab Africa will output a portfolio of businesses that Barclays Africa can further support during their growth journey.

New Ventures Studio

New Ventures Studio is a young entrepreneur accelerator It is a platform for young individuals who want to be successful entrepreneurs, but realize the importance of up skilling themselves before venturing out into the unfamiliar territory of entrepreneurship. Enterprise Elevator

Enterprise Elevator is a partner driven accelerator platform focussed on high impact tech start-ups that provide solutions to Africa’s most pressing issues. A Health-Tech Accelerator Program – seeking m-health, Health-Tech and other post revenue tech companies which positively impact health throughout South Africa.

New Economy Accelerator

Startup 90

Startup 90 is different than other ones in South Africa. It looks at startups from a local perspective. “We challenge our applicants to solve a problem in their community at the same time making their products relevant to the general African market which is young and mobile-oriented,” Ramluckan explains. Thus, the accelerator wants to stay as much flexible as it can, operating in a complicated environment that’s still being developed.

AMPION Fellowship

AMPION Fellowships are an extensive 6 – 12 months support to facilitate the early stages of entrepreneurial activity. Selected from among best participants of AMPION Venture Bus, teams and individuals receive a package of financial  support, workspaces, mentoring and access to investors to further develop their business model. Fellowships are offered in collaboration with our strategic partners AfriLabs and VC4Africa. At the end of the Fellowship the participating startups will be ready to either enter a local accelerator program or launch their product and enter the market immediately.

Innotech

InnoTech is a Bandwidth Barn / Telkom FutureMakers programme focusing on web and mobile applications development, software development and design, and gaming. InnoTech looks to stimulate the creation of new businesses and support the expansion and growth of existing companies through the uptake of technology and innovation capability.

Ignitor

Ignitor, which says it helps startups grow using lean, coaching and mentoring. The programme includes a three-day bootcamp where entrepreneurs apply lean startup principles, 12-weeks of coaching with an experienced entrepreneur, and more than 50 online video modules.

Green Pioneer Accelerator

The Green Pioneer Accelerator is specifically designed for early to growth stage businesses in the environmental goods and services sector.This program is keenly interested in supporting entrepreneurs with innovative products and services, who are tackling critical environmental challenges while also making a meaningful contribution to society and economic development.

Global Cleantech Innovation Programme

The GEF (Global Environment Facility), UNIDO (the United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and TIA (the Technology Innovation Agency) in South Africa are implementing the GCIP (Global Cleantech Innovation Programme) for SMEs to promote clean technology innovation and supporting SMEs and start-ups working on solutions related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste beneficiation and water efficiency. The programme combines a competition and a business accelerator to offer participants progressing through the programme extensive mentoring, training, access to investors and opportunities to showcase their innovations to the media and the public. Participants stand a chance to win a cash award and national business support awards, in addition to a trip to Silicon Valley, CA, to participate in the Cleantech Open Global Forum.

We offer a pioneering environment to inspire individuals and teams with great startup ideas, passion and commitment. From our roots in South Africa, we aim to foster a safe and stimulating environment for people with ideas ground-breaking enough to change the world. 42Engines is a mix of experienced investors, successful entrepreneurs and individuals who have successfully founded their own businesses. Despite the official-sounding title, calling ourselves Business Conductors, the structure at 42Engines is flat, without a leadership hierarchy.
