Today the Pivot25 mobile conference kicked off in Nairobi, Kenya, to much fanfare and excitement. Pivot25 is a mobile apps and developer conference and competition for the east Africa region. Earlier this year m:lab East Africa, the organisation behind Pivot 25, put out a call for entrepreneurs in mobile apps and content services to pitch their ventures at the event. The winner gets to present its venture at DEMO in Silicon Valley, all expenses paid.
Five finalists were selected in each of the five categories — check them out here:
- mobile payments and mobile commerce
- mobile entertainment, gaming, and utilities
- mobile business and enterprise
- mobile government, agriculture and education
- mobile health
What is clear from the event is that innovation and entrepreneurship in the mobile space is alive and well in East Africa.
It is worth taking the time to check out these finalists, and follow the coverage.
m:Lab East Africa is the sister organisation of mLab Southern Africa, which also aims to incubate innovation and entrepreneurship in mobile apps and content in the region.
