Google launches Umbono incubator in the Silicon Cape.

Google officially launched their Umbono project today. It is a project aimed at incubating African Tech entrepreneurs. They provide joint angel funding from Google and a connected Angel group as well as office space at the Hub and mentorship from Google developers. They also get assistance from the Bandwidth Barn VeloCITI program. See more on the Google blog here. (Or the Memeburn writeup here)

Teams need to be based in Cape Town to be part of the project as the offering is a combination of local services and networks. This is the first full service incubator to be positioned in the Silicon Cape as it offers participants funding, mentorship, support as well as placing them on a time limit of 6 months to develop their idea.

You do not need a full business plan to apply, but only a good idea, strong technical team and be able to run with your idea. They are currently looking for idea’s so apply here.
